This time we are going to cover Europe. My wife and I with one more
couple will do Europe in Sep and appreciate your ideas.

We are adventurers and trying to cover famous places. Advise on
itineraries and hotels would be appreciated. We will take public
transport and need a decent place to sleep.

After researching we are trying to cover following places.

Paris, France
Provence, France
Rome, Italy
Venice, Italy
Amsterdam, Netherlands
The Hague, Netherlands

We have 21 days to spare between these cities and would like to see
more counties based on your tips.

Thanks a million.

I'd go over Clermont-Ferrand instead of using the TGV. South of
Clermont, you'll see a different France. It might be even worth it, to
hop out and visit a cheese shop.

On the way from Italy to the Netherlands, the railway station chapel of
Cologne is conveniently located for train travelers.

I would prefer one of the smaller towns in the Netherlands, like Delft.
Not big, not famous, but ... see yourself.

well, god did the world in seven days, and you need a full month for
this big peninsula?

Christo and Jeanne-Claude already covered famous places, like e.g.
the Berlin "Reichstag" building. You should take care to chose
others...

Have fun! I do!

Well I would do:
Amsterdam
Bruges
Paris
Lyon
Orange / Avignon / Arles (base in Avignon)
Nice / Monaco / Menton (base in Menton)
Milan
Venice
Rome
... spending 2/3 days in each place. If you try to squeeze in any
more, you'll be unbelievably rushed and won't see anything.

Hi,

in my personal opinion you're trying to do to many cities.

try Paris, Amsterdam, Rome.

sure the other cities have a lot to offer but you'll have a week in each
city this way.

you could spend a month in Paris or Rome and not see 1/2 of what there
is to see.

you can do overnight trains between these cities too... get a couchette
or a 1st class sleeper.... Paris/Amsterdam as an overnight may be
over... they've been cutting it back for a few years now... the first to
go was the winter months... but the overnight would come back in high
season (summer)... haven't checked for this summer.

but you could do the Thalys it's basically the french TGV and you'll get
to run at speed (180mph) at least from Paris through Brussels.

btw...just because you're not a college kid doesn't mean you can't make
a eurailpass work...

price a eurail 5 day flexipass (and include the benelux countries) then
price Amsterdam-rome, Rome-Paris, Paris-Amsterdam.... you just might be
pleasantly surprised... and you'll have 2 days left over for day
trips... (say to Den Hague).

if you write me offline to hackamore at gmail dot com I can give you
some hotel recommendations for Paris and Amsterdam.

Depends on your budget of course for accomodation I find the Ibis Hotel
chain you can make the bookings on line via their web site
and hence get discounted rates also on my last travel trip used Old City
Hotels web site.

For rail travel there is Inter-Rail which do passes for a group of countries
or a global (Europe) pass - not age restricted details via the Rail Europe
website

And not available to people living outside Europe. As has been pointed
out before, they'd have to take a Eurail pass. Might even come in
cheaper as those are priced in US$ and US$ low.
