Hello,

this year in late September I plan to visit the Kyklades Island in Greece.
I have been to several islands like Naxos, Mykonos, Thira ans Ios an I want
to try a new one and smaller one.
Can anybody help me to decide to got to Anafi ot to Folgandros? Which on is
more nice and more quiet? Which one has the better beaches. ans which one
has better and cheaper accomondation?

Thanks and regards,

Oliver

Folegandros is *very* different from the central kyklades islands that
you mention (Naxos, Mykonos etc.). It is a quiet island that has
resisted mass tourism and kept much of its Greek island character.
There are no beaches with umbrellas, sun-beds, watersports, or any of
the other tourist paraphernalia.

The main port has a small hotel or two but very litle else. The main
town Chora, is a few kilometres inland at the top of a cliff. This has
several small hotels, some rooms offering accomodation, two squares
shaded by large leafy trees, a number of very good tavernas, and a
central rather eccentric cafe. Traffic is not allowed in the town so it
is very peaceful and quiet.

There are a few good beaches on the island but getting to them involves
a bus ride and/or a walk, so if you want a beach holiday it's not
really the island for you. It is not a particularly cheap island
either, as it seems to attract an up-market clientele who are willing
to pay more for the atmosphere and the peace and quiet.

I can't help you with Anafi as I haven't been there yet, but I
understand that it is even quieter than Folegandros.
