[snip entire story]
Didn't see the stat that our local news rag had about this.
The previous death due to bear attack was round about 1998
or sometime round then. I wonder how many people died on
the highway near Canmore in that time. Or fell off cliffs
in the mountains round the area. Or choked on their food
at one of the eateries in the town. Or heck, got struck by
lightning. In the summer there are 10's of thousands of
people per day who go over that stretch of highway on
their way to or from Banff. The day I hiked Chinaman's peak,
which backs on Canmore, there were hundreds of people on
that hill alone.
