Sea turtle season began last month on May 1st and we've started to see
some of the nests staked out on the beach here in Boca Raton. Seeing
those nests encouraged me to get my pictures and video clips from last
year online.
The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is a free attraction (donations
accepted) that runs these public programs. We went on a turtle walk
and later a hatchling release. Unfortunately, we only saw a "false
crawl" on the turtle walk. That's where the female sea turtle decides
to not lay eggs.
The hatchling release was much more fun since we got to see several
dozen baby sea turtles crawling out into the Atlantic.

If you want to go this year, be sure to get your tickets early since
they go fast. The best way to photograph the sea turtles is with a
video camera that has a "nightshot" infrared light feature. Flash
photography is not permitted since it can confuse the turtles.
