I wouldn't say "universal," just wide-spread. Thus its occurance in New
England and New Zealand is mere coincidence, and irrelevant to Yuri's
claim of diffusion from the Pacific Northwest to Polynesia.
And note: Pacific NW woven bark cloth is nothing like tapa as Yuri is
wont to claim.

No I didn't, I said a bag looks to be twined

I don't think he was suggesting that _you_ linked the two. But 'round
here, we've got some people who - unless you specify
every...single...detail of what you said (no matter how much you
personally might believe that only an idiot could not understand what
you meant. Well, they're idiots...) - will twist what you said into
something that supports their own personal belief system and it will
then create another three, four-hundred messages in the thread of
people telling them, no, he/she meant _this_.
As such, many people here now try to head this off at the pass, so to
speak. It doesn't help much - Seppo, 'fer instance, can twist
_anything_ (example: he's now arguing that the words "designation" and
"name" mean completely unrelated things) - but you do what you can.
[/quote:fc5bb75cf0]
Oh right, there's a lot of that on usenet,
I don't read those type of threads,
in fact I actually read very little on usenet
that is not of some useful informative value.
[quote:fc5bb75cf0]Twining is a skill that is universal throughout various locations of the

Yes - which perhaps makes it somewhat less than useful to track
cultures. It's kinda like saying "look, these two people _both_ cut
down trees by hacking through the base of them with axes! They _must_
be related!"
[/quote:fc5bb75cf0]
They might be related.

I don't think somehow that the traditional Maori and Canadian West

"Their [Canadian West Coast Natives'] canoes are large and roomy,
capable of accommodating scores of men; they are made with great skill

In which case, we'd be better talking in person.
Okay. Use the email link on my page.

I think I will pass on that one.
I have had 1 or 2 strange people from usenet
in my email in the past.
One even went to great lengths to set up a webpage
with pretty pictures of himself, which even included
a cheeky denim clad butt shot,
{wahoo !! }
the purposes for which I am not clear on.
So I am very particular about emails and mainly stick to my own people.
