There is a Beckman 35 UV/Vis spectrophotometer coming up at a local
auction. It appears to be in pretty good shape (was used at the local
university). There is no manual with it. The unit comes with both the
spectrophotometer portion, and a chart recorder that is interfaced and
apparently controls the scan rate.

My first question is whether someone out there would email if they
have a manual, and if they would be willing to either scan it to a
..pdf file or photocopy it for me. I would be willing to pay a nominal
amount to cover costs and hassle factor.

Secondly, any advice as to what is a reasonable price to pay for one
of these units?

Regards

Phil

Depends a lot on what you want to do with it. If you need lots of scans

down to 200 nm or so then you might be disappointed. I wouldn't pay much
more than a thousand dollars unless Beckman will still support it. A simple
thing like a blown capacitor on a board might make it totally unusable if
there are no spares available. In good shape, these seem to be available
for about $1800 or so, and they were quite reliable with good Near IR
capabilities to 900 nm or so. The UV performance in our hands was a little
less than stellar but overall a good machine. If Beckman will sell you a
service contract then $2000 would be a good price.
