POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY STUDIES (2004-2006)
CORNELL UNIVERSITY
Funding from the Mellon Foundation will provide a two-year
post-doctoral fellowship for a candidate with an outstanding record in
the area of science & technology studies. A Ph.D. in science &
technology studies or a related field, such as the history, sociology,
or anthropology of science, is required. We especially encourage
applications from candidates who have conducted empirical research on
central issues in S&TS and whose interests are relevant to normative
questions. The salary for this position will be $46,500 per year, and
includes standard faculty health insurance and retirement benefits. A
research account of $2,000 per year will also be provided. In
addition, the fellow will have a fund of $4,000 from which moving
costs, computer purchase, and further research expenses can be
reimbursed over the course of the two-year fellowship. The fellow is
expected to teach one course per semester, according to the needs of
the Department of Science & Technology Studies, and to attend the
Faculty Seminar in the Humanities, an interdisciplinary group that
will meet for two hours per week. During 2004-05, the theme of the
Faculty Seminar will be ethics and during 2005-06 it will relate to
culture and value.
Eligibility: Applicants who received the Ph.D. degree after September
1998 and who will complete their work for the Ph.D. degree by June 30,
2004, are eligible to apply.
