What freshman/sophmore level biology course related to nanotechnology
might I create at my college? I teach biology at an undergraduate college.
Our college is just exploring the concept that we need to get on-board
with nanotechnology, perhaps work on creating a nanotechnology program. I
would like to develop some new biology course related to nanotech, for
students in their first year or two of college; a course that might later
become part of a nanotech program at our college. Any ideas? Any such
courses being done elsewhere? Thank you in advance.

I will suggest to develop a course which covers analytical techniques
incoporating biochemistry...one very good course can be on
BIOANALYTICAL SENSORS...most common example of such sensors is ION
SELECTIVE ELECTRODES which are modified in different ways...thats just
a common example of that..the text to follow is chemical and
biosensors by DIOMOND....

this is an interesting field of study which deals a lot with
medicine or pharamceutical sensors...
if u need more detail e mail me....

thanks

I wouldn't think the prerequistes a student needs to get the most from a
technical course on nanotechnology would be in place till the end of the
sophmore year. But I guess I haven't been paying attention to what colleges
are doing these days (based on my Google search explained below).

I did a quick Google search using the keywords 'first course nanotechnology
biology' and came up with 28,000 hits. Some may already be known to you,
but if they aren't, perhaps a few I selected may suggest ideas to you (or
confuse you further!):

I was rather surprised to see nanotechnology courses showing up in the
first year. But I probably have in mind something more technical than these
courses are doing.
