Well, look at hominid evolution in Europe since agriculture came in
10,000 years ago. This reduced the amount of land needed to feed a tribe
by a factor of 500. There was far more land than anyone could plow, and
the hunter/warriors were no longer needed, so women took over.
In part they did this by discovering herbs for birth control and
abortion, seen in the fact that the populations were so stable. A
village by the river in 8000 BC was still a village 4000 years later.
the towns, which quickly grew to 10-20,000 stayed that size.
So- rather than men hunting game, it was women foraging herbs. And as a
result, inventory management and organization of the communal house got
to be a big deal among the smart women.
7000 years ago, a transnational economy emerged from Hallstaat and
Salzburg (salt mines) all the way down the Danube to the Black Sea
fisheries and the world's first plank hulled fishing fleet. They were
also up in the Transylvanians mining gold and chalcocite, and on the
Delta lands that still have Rumanian oil wells, where they were getting
crude oil and tar.
The upshot was an explosion of diverse material objects, and the result
was a set of carved stamp icons, over 250 found so far, to make labels
for pots and baskets to deal with it all. The bone middens have over 100
different wild plants and animals in addition to an already diverse set
of domesticated varieties. And all this shit hadda be organized.
Which Transylvanian witches were in charge of, and their descendants, to
this day, still feel the need to expend energy getting it all in order.
I dunno that this will solve the problem; but you mite be able to find
something she can redirect her energy into. Some women have gone into
foraging thru the junk stores, flea markets, and antique shops for some
particular class of object, and then setting up display cases. This is a
lot easier to live with than moving furniture, and sometimes the women
end up making tons of money at it.
Displacement is also going on with smart women who see the instability
of the system as the warrior class, which has ruled for 5000 years since
they took over from the witches, are now, in turn, being disempowered.
Ironically, it was an invention of women, writing that empowered men.
For before writing, it was impossible to organize the logistics to equip
and move an army from one place to another.
And ever since then, the warrior class has tried to control what would
be written and disseminated; only, as you see here, they are loosing
that control. That loss is somewhat chaotic, and women are nervous with
no clear idea of how to reorganize things. They cant stop the ship of
state, so they focus on the deckchairs, or in your case, the couch.
Some women in my neck of Ozark woods have picked up on this also; more
women are moving her from urban areas. Revolutions have always been so
much more dangerous and disastrous in the cities, and being able to get
an out of the way rural home organized is seen as useful. They are not,
however, trying to reconstruct the nuclear family model of Pioneers, but
returning to the communal village model of agrarian ancestors.
