Hi to all,
what is the meaning of the gamma parameter, used in the program Paint
Shop, in the window of histogram equalization? How it is implemented? |

Not exactly sure since I don't know their algorithm, but just from a
knowledge of gamma in general, I'd say that instead of giving a flat
histogram and a perfect ramp CDF (this would be the IDEAL case), it
would give a skewed histogram with the CDF being more of your
classical gamma shape rather than a perfect triangle ramp from 0-255.
It probably gives more bright gray levels than dark ones which has the
effect of brightening the dark regions without saturating the bright
regions (that's the general intent of using a gamma to give better
appearing photos).
