This is about 3 miles from where I grew up. Just west of the Meramec
River. It was a whole 2.7 mm.
People around here were going nuts. Someone asked me today how you could
prevent earthquakes. Another told me the best thing to do was run into
the bathroom (?)
I was awake for this one, but never noticed it, either. I guess I'm
going to have to start to may more attention. |

Jo,
You need the right bed. Years ago when I worked at Pinnacles Ntn'l Monument,
south of Hollister, CA., I lived in cabin with an old very well spung set of
springs. Anything above 1.0 would shake the thing and wake me up. That was
very regularly as that neighborhood jiggles regularly.
That and the coons slamming the screen door.

I think the bed I have is set to detect 3.0+. When my husband was at the
park w/seismic station, I was jostled awake on a Sunday morning. He was
already at work. Called and asked him to check the drum recorder (a "for
display" off a digital feed) and sure enough, there had been a 3.1 on
the New Madrid. But this past Monday I was already up and about. The
problem is I'm just habituated to the coal trains rumbling. |
