Where can the books be found?

The original masterpiece can be found at a number of locations.
However do not be lead into buying the inferior version of the book -
'better sight without glasses - regain 20/20 vision' - in which
various parts were edited out to appear more agreeable with mainstream
eyecare; such as descriptions of the use of sun treatment using the
burning glass, and the use of memory in the prevention of pain and as
an alternative for anaesthetic. In addition, all of the pictures are
cut out. To make things all the worse, the book is often sold under a
horrible large font size which is straining to the eye. Above all, the
true spirit of Bates cannot be felt in this book. The humorous chapter
headers which were present on each page on the original are removed.

The original version is referred to under two names:

Perfect Sight Without Glasses
The Cure of Imperfect Sight By Treatment Without Glasses

Original copies of the book (original as in, the absolute first
published copies which Dr.Bates own printing company released) are
often found in circulation on websites such as Ebay. Though their
condition are often very aged looking on the front sides, the inside
is sometimes completely intact and the beautiful pure undistilled
black is a true pleasure to read. The font used within the original
book is also very relaxing to the eyesight. When read under the great
bright light of the sun, this curative effect is even more
emphatically felt. Oleg Krupnov has remarked in his blog that 'the
letters seem to swing all by themselves'.

Rishi Gatti is also selling a remastered version of the book, using
all of the original content. His publishing company is called
'Rishigg Consulting Co.'. For Italian speaking readers, he has also
made a wonderfully and accurately translated version, although I am
not sure if he is still selling it.

I believe Mike Tyner was also once an owner of the first edition, but
he may not still have it. You can ask him if he'll sell it to you.

It can be found on Amazon very cheaply also:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Imperfect-Sight-Treatment-Without-Glasses/dp/1428610928/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1206555066&sr=8-1

Make sure not to buy the full priced amazon version, because you can
get it in the 'Used and New' section for a real bargain, in brand new
condition too.

If you are short on money then fear not. The book is also hosted and
freely avaialable, due to expiration of its copywrite, on several
places online.

The next masterpiece you should read, once you have gone over the
original 1920s one, is the Better Eyesight Magazines.

This is somewhat harder to find, or at least to find the full run of
the publication. Rishi Gatti is selling the entire contents split into
two parts. However, his price is not cheap! I asked him once and he
was selling it pretty high. But it's only to be expected with a book
of that size. And he is just about the only person I know who has the
absolute full publication, without any cut out parts. It's well worth
it if you do buy his version.

He sells an Italian translation too, along with Emily's 'Stories from
the Clinic' - a wonderful compilation of clinical reports from the
Better Eyesight Magazines into one very interesting and inspiring
book.

Fortunately, it can be found in other places for cheaper. On Amazon it
is currently only 18 dollars! An absolutely unbeatable price for an
immensely huge book beautifully presented by Thomas Quackenbush. The
only downside is that the idiot Quackenbush often writes silly notes
here and there, and cuts out the sunning practice recommendations
(replacing it with just [sunning]) and other things, which goes to
show that he is not fully appreciative of the true Bates spirit.

Finally you can read in fact the magazines for free here:

http://www.central-fixation.com/bettereyesight.htm

However it's filled with typos and strange random errors. It's as
though the author tried to scan the magazines onto computer, and then
turned it into text using a bad quality software resulting in a poor
conversion.

Mike,

Of course, you meant the "_friction_" section?

This reminds me, the Bates magazines are full of fairy tales. Not only
are they all fun and inspiring, but they make me laugh so much!!!

Zetsu, if people keep mentioning Bates and fairy tales, you might
wanna make SMV wet its pants by posting some stories about the Bates
fairies!!! =DDDDD

xD

BTW the link I posted to the Amazon site where you can buy the
original book is for people in the UK (that's where I live). If you
live in the US, then you can buy it from here:
