My company has purchased a large number of generic nanotechnology
domain names (e.g., nanomagnetism.com). These names cover the entire
nanotechnology discipline, and establish a keyword Internet structure.
High quality development of these web sites would result in
significant benefits to the technical community, industry and the
general public.

A scenario for corporate funding is also discussed.

I would very much appreciate comments and suggestions for employing
these domain names in the public interest.

I won't waste too many words here -- I don't see how this would be
helpful at all. To anyone. The "aims" of this proposal are already
done well by existing reputable entities. If I want to find out about
nano developments in general, I go someplace like foresight; if I am
interested in specifics, I visit the appropriate scientific journal.
I go to the source. For academics, this is pointless (I have never
once mindlessly visited thermodynamics.com or statisticalmechanics.org
hoping for a quick fix of knowledge). For the general public,
probably moreso -- what do you envision drawing people to these sites?
I doubt that sites dealing with other exciting emerging technologies,
such as fuel cells or even romanticized space technologies, have much
traffic from the general public. There's a slight chance that a site
like this could be marginally effective as a networking tool for
people involved in the area.

I'm sorry if I come off as harsh -- I'm sure you mean well. But this
is really no different than cyber-squatting; and this choice of topic
for domain names is probably just ineffective cyber-squatting. I hope
you don't have too much time or money invested in this venture...
