There is an obscure historical example of what we are in for in the
ancient Silk Road towns, which florished beyond the hegemony of the
Roman, Byzantine, Persian, & Chinese empires, but were eventually
destroyed by the hegemony of Islam, and then the Mongols.
The greed of the ruling warrior classes of these larger empires
stripped out all profit, and the whole system collapsed. But now that
no single political entity is in control, it is re-emerging. The other
thing about so many of these desert towns, is that the wells enroute
didnt have enuf water to supply an army.
The Chinese sometimes garrissoned, but it was with a velvet glove, and
welcome because of their efforts to put down banditry. But the
logistics of supporting armies in the Kara Kum and Taklamakhan deserts
resulted in the disempowerment of the warrior class, and the rise of
women within the political and economic power structures of these
independent city states.
The usual concepts of capitalism and socialism dont fit; each city was
in a free market competing with other cities on parallel routes. If
there was revolution or a violent power struggle, business went around
it. There were no draconian tyrannies, and even the Chinese realized
that competent craftsmen could, and did, vote with their feet to hop
on the next camel train to whatever town had a lower cost of
management.
Because women ran the towns, and the water supply was clearly limited,
they used some form of herbal birth control, and had very stable
populations that worked the same oasis farm land without ever
destroying the fertility for thosands of years. Indeed, it is still
being farmed.
And in the pre-eminent city, on the main, middle Silk Road, Kucha,
they didnt breed airheads, but drafted them into brothels. So, they
didnt *have* welfare queens. The Kuchi were notorious for wearing
silk. There were no slums in Kucha. No doubt, the brothels, which were
owned by the city, funded the government without taxes.
Already there are similar deviations from conventional morality which
are paying off for the local citizens. Malta is doing really well.
There are lotsa brothels in an agreeable sunny climate. The age of
consent at Malta is *12*.
Kucha was likewise favored in its day. When the Kuchi coo by the
brothel door, the men come running. And when they leave, they pay in
the curious perforated Kuchan coin, like washers so it can be strung
will being carried on the road. The name for Kuchan coin:"cash".
There have always been two ways to control men: sex or violence. Pick
one. It worked for women on the Silk Road towns for thousands of years
until virulent STDs evoloved. But now... technology has brought us
nukes, which means that violence is no longer such a good idea, and it
has also brought us safe sex techniques and the diagnostics to
identify carriers.
No matter how bad or good the economy is, increasing numbers of women
are figuring that out. What is now viewed as decadence and depravity
will be converted into case management. Either on a local scale if the
proverbial SHTF, or on a global scale as local economies realize the
profits in a well managed sex trade with effective means of
controlling STDs.
The Kuchan women left us letters where they arrange for their boys to
get laid when they arrive at the next town. The moms dont want their
boys coming back with STDs from fucking cheap whores. The Mosou of SW
China still operate communal housing where the grandmothers own all
the businesses. The profits dont go to supporting the lavish lifestyle
of an alpha male elite, but for better healthcare and education for
the kids. Which include male mentors who live in the communal houses-
polyamorously.
They dont *have* a "welfare problem". They dont breed the stupid
airheads either. And dont use stud muffins as sperm donors. The
communal lifestyle means one central heating system with a much lower
per capita carbon footprint. The people dont commute. so they dont
care what the price of gas is. They work in their own craft shops.
I know an Ozark clan that markets their output on the internet.
Economically, its a no brainer whether the global economy keeps on
cranking, or they need to rely on the food they can grow. And scaled
up from the single family cottage to the small business level, its
much more efficient and competitive.
And, now that so few young men make enuf to support a family, young
women are looking into other social models. The smart young women have
quit waiting for Mr. Wright, and are surfing fertility clinics to
select from among thousands of more promising Y chromosome lines than
are available among the local stud muffin pool.. or the balls of the
posters here. I can understand why they view this with alarm, but
there's no way to stop it. It is darwinian capitalism at work. |
