All through the year, I keep telling myself that I don't need
nobody.., but when this day rolls out, I remember some of the most
romantic times I had when I was a mere 17 and the blues songs keep
rolling!!! Sigh....

What are you planning to do/or already did for your Valentine's
Day?? Very Happy

Yesterday was my husband's birthday, and I always bake a cake for him
for that, so I don't really want any chocolates or anything just now. I
usually do pick some up on sale to save for a later time. A few years
ago we tried to go out for a nice dinner on Valentine's, but all of the
restaurants are packed on that day, and it was just too stressful to be
any fun.

I just heard on the news that the average man spends $160 for Valentine
gifts. If my husband ever did that we would not have been married for 55
years!

I ignore Valentine's Day and most other commercial holidays. We do nice
things together, or buy each other things when the spirit moves us and we
see something we know the other would appreciate. We usually do something
nice on our anniversary together and did exchange gifts on our 50th.

I will cuddle my dogs, though, but that's an every day thing.

Valentine's Day originally commemorated the Saint's Day of a Christian
martyr.

It is similar to Hallowe'en in that it was originally a Catholic holy day
that has become eclipsed by a big commercial fol-de-rol.

I try my best to ignore it except for going the day after Valentine's and
getting my children dirt-cheap candy (a tradition of long standing that is
done after Valentine's Easter, Hallowe'en, and Christmas), and for today I
am planning on snuggling with my poochie, who turns 1 today and is half
energy generator plant (took her to the dog park yesterday and for an hour
and a half she hardly stopped running around at speeds from from trotting
speed to cheetah-looking speed except to sniff other dogs and once to lay
down for about 10 seconds) and half magnetic dog (as in she clings to you
when you hold her and doesn't want to get down).[/quote:ff05d18653]

I just bought a dozen yellow roses and we're going to go out to dinner
tomorrow because it's too crazy to do that today.

I forgot to get a card, however, so I'm going to have to print out a cheesy
computer card:(.

Nice job, Ed! DH put $1200 in my car, don't think I need anything else, it
is now in the shop three days later for another $400! We don't need to be
spending anything else!

For 22 years I've cut my hair myself (short, white, and curly) except for
one time about 15 years ago. Today I did it again. Since my DH isn't able
to get to a store or buy on-line (we paid off, cut up, and cancelled our
credit cards), I decided to be nice to me today. It works.

Yellow roses, that traditionally are supposed to mean jealousy? GD&RFC

I used to get handmade original Valentines every year from my husband,
starting with the year we were just friends and I got a hand-drawn picture
of Yosemite Sam with the caption, "Be my Valentine, or I'll blast ye!" to
you-name-it. The first year I did not get a handmade original card (in
over 20 years), I got this gut feeling like things were going down the
tubes.

I used to write poems to Terri in the cards I would give her, but I haven't
done so in a number of years.

We're doing OK after 26 years of mutual tolerance, but I used to be a lot
more romantic:).

Well, I certainly didn't know that, but more importantly, Terri doesn't
either:).

I bet she'd get all mushy if you'd write her another poem. A lot of us
girls get pretty nostalgic remembering stuff like that.

Yes, Happy Valentine's Day to all. I'm a little late, been very busy with
work. I'm home typing now (20 hours per week) with Norelco dictaphone
(tapes).

Happy Valentin's Day to all.

Also, Barbara, thanks for you story-it was delightful (Rhode Island and
horses). Sounds like you had a nice childhood there.

I like Connecticut-but hope to retire to Vermont in a few years.
Taxes are so high here....
