i just came up with a new idea in psychology.
i call it "The Prison Effect".
these days i witnessed the graduation of my schoolmates. they are very
sad that they will leave each other.
interestingly, the school itself is very repressive on students. it's
a university in china. it doesn't allow students to access the
internet except its own LAN where there are only stuff the school
thinks is "good" for the students. paid internet access is possible,
though.
the school also imposes undesired and harmful (i think) courses on
students, depriving the students' time for independent pursuits.
it is exactly like a prison, yet the students don't want to leave it
on graduation.
it's like you're jailed and spend 4 years with some inmates and when
you're released you don't want to leave.
is there any established theory in psychology for this phenomenon?
Regards,
