I am considering electromagnetic shielding for a human being, I live
in the UK. The options are;
http://www.hitek-ltd.co.uk/military_emh_products.htm
"Deployable Shielding" made of Nora Dell fabric, which claims
performance of 80dB, and
http://www.ets-lindgren.com/
which provides panels with much higher shielding of 120dB.
Which should I choose, and does it make any difference in practice?
The Lindgren is twice the cost of the Nora Dell. I am merely trying to
shield against microwave radiation from 500 MHz up to about 10GHz, has
anyone used either product and what are your comments on them? |

Well, people have been profiting off of idiots like you since the
beginning of time. I'd say be safe and buy both. |

Definitely you should buy the more expensive one.
Let me know which you end up with and I'll call my stockbroker.
Incidentally, as you know, Tony Blair has resigned; his last Act
of Parliament and his personal retirement gift to the nation is to
denationalise the Tower of London, and being a personal friend of
mine he's given me the first option to buy it.
To be quite honest with you I don't want to upset the dear chap but
I don't really want it.
I'm retired myself, you see, and I'd have to sit in a kiosk and take money
from tourists all day. It's got the crown jewels in it, but I have enough
to eat, I don't really need them. You'd be doing me a real favour
if you'd buy it from me (but don't tell Tony) and do the kiosk sitting
for me. Just give me £10,000 as a security deposit, I'll pay you half the
loot.. .err.. takings from the kiosk and you can keep the part that I don't
want. AND... here's the real clincher for the deal of a lifetime. The
stone walls are so thick and dense microwave radiation can't get through
them. They are almost as thick and dense as your head, actually.

Have you been watching Panorama on the BBC by any chance? Shouldn't believe
all you see on TV.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/panorama/6674675.stm
Quote "a Panorama investigation shows that radio frequency radiation levels
in some schools are up to three times the level found in the main beam of
intensity from mobile phone masts. "
Now I wonder why they didn't compare the signal from the wifi enabled laptop
with those from a mobile phone? Do you think it's because people are scared
of mobile phone masts but not mobile phones? |

OK then. Physics is a quantitative science. You ask "does it make any
difference in practice?" without any indication of what is supposed to
differ, or what "practice" consists of.
Before your question can be answered, you need to establish why you
think there is a problem, what the problem is, and why these products
might be a potential solution. Then you need to define a quantitative
measure of the problem, and what the value of that quantity would have
to be for a solution.
*Then* you can ask whether your proposal actually solves the problem.

Try an electronics forum perhaps.
Both figures represent quite good attenuation but what's the source you are
trying to shield people from? Microwaves do nasty things to eyes so total
body coverage might be more important than the absolute attenuation. |
