I heard a radio ad for a fast food restaurant
that offered "bottomless fries." I think this is taking
the supersized portions that have become so commonplace
to a new extreme. When one considers that a "small" (2.4 oz.)
portion of French fries has 210 calories, one shudders
to think what can happen with the potential for unlimited
consumption. A 1,000 calorie portion of French fries?
Not far fetched, considering that the limited "supersized"
(6.2 oz) portion of French fries has 540 calories.
It seems so simple, but yet this is much of the problem with the
prevalence of overweight and obesity. Too much food. The food
manufacturers, having created supersized portions are now
marketing and selling 100 calorie portions of snack foods.
But we need not allow ourselves to be spoon fed, so to speak by
food manufacturers. We can limit portions on our own and
make great strides towards mastery, day-by-day of weight control.
This inspired me to start a blog, something I've been meaning
to do for some time. I finally started to lose weight and
keep it off 12 years ago when I kept a food diary. I was
as rigorous with it as I was with balancing a checkbook.
Having that accountability made a world of difference and
made me aware, daily, of portion sizes.
I found a great article on 10 tips to control portion sizes
and I have posted it on my new blog. I'm planning to
continue to add helpful resources as I find them:

A damaged hypothalmus makes the body store fat abnormally and makes
hunger uncontrollable. The hypothalmus regulates a persons metabolism
and hunger. Fast food is engineered to make people's metabolisms lower,
make people gain weight, and make people more ravenous. When nutrients
are stored in fat cells rather than fuel the rest of the body a lower
metabolism results. The hypothalmus directs hunger to increase so the
body can be nourished. The hypothalmus is the key to the obesity
epidemic. Fast food is engineered to affect the hypothalmus and create
this abnormal condition. Additives like high fructose corn syrup affect
the hypothalmus and are addictive.
Portion control is based on willpower, which is extremely difficult
for obese people with an abnormal hypothalmus. The hypothalmus regulates
hunger. Obese people eat more because the hypothalmus has been damaged.
It can be repaired.
The answer to obesity lies in an abnormal hypothalmus. Metabolism
and hunger are regulated by the hypothalmus. People who diet tend to
burn the structural fat first. This fat surrounds the organs and joints.
The reserve fat is the last to be burned. The metabolism has been
lowered and hunger becomes uncontrollable. Obese people have an
increased appetite that is caused from an abnormal hypothalmus. The
condition is reversible. Investigate the protocol in the site at bottom.
Hunger diminishes, reserve fat is burned and structural fat is left
alone, metabolism increases.
