apologies in advance for being unknowledgeable about the subject and
about to ask embarassingly stupid questions.
Basically what I have (or will have, I should say,) is some weak
magnets set in wood that hold some other wood painted with metal paint
on one side in place.
I want to cover this wood with a conductive fabric, pass a weak charge
through it that causes the magnet to momentarily cancel its field.
Is this possible, where can one read on how to do this if possible,
would like it to be more craftsman oriented reading, as what I am
doing is building some cool home diy projects |

no an electric field won't disrupt or cancel a magnetic field. you can
generate a magnetic field with a current in a conductor, but to cancel a
permanent magnet field it would take a many turn soleniod wound in the right
direction with the right current to oppose the permanent field. any
current through a fabric layer would not generate enough of a magnetic field
to cancel the permanent magnets, nor would it be in the right direction to
do anything useful. if you insulated the two pieces of wood from each other
and applied enough of the same charge to each of them you might be able to
get the electric fields to repel enough, if the magnets were pretty weak,
the insulation was good, and the voltage was high enough.

"pass a charge" = current
If you spike the fabric widthwise between the poles, you'll merely
spin the fob. You'll need to use a magneticly-conductive (permeabil)
fabric and the elèctricly-conductive girdel, which may be one loop or
a bunch of bows (arcs) with your leads.
