Today at my local welding shop I bought four adjustable pipe stand
tripods. I don't have a shop or welding table or any of that other
comfy stuff that civilized welders use. Not even a cement floor.

So, up to now, I haven't had even a second of buyer's remorse. With a
single stand, adjusted to near its maximum height, I was able to put a
20 foot stick of angle iron on my chop saw and make some cuts. With
four of these I might even manage to get a roof over my head.

On a slightly different, but related note: What prompted me to buy the
stands is that I'm about to start a double "burglar door" to protect
our front door against being kicked in. The doors and frame will be
made of 2" angle iron.

Some time ago, I ran across a guy's web page where he showed off some
projects. He made some angle iron frames by cutting one leg of the
angle then bending the other leg in a 90 degree angle. He then cut
some square tabs and welded these into the section opened up by the
bend.

It may be that everybody on the planet does it that way. But I had
never thought of it. I've always cut the angle on a 45 degree bevel
and welded the edges together. This struck me as a better way to do
it.

Finally, a little gloat. Over the holiday my wife found a "basket
case" '89 Dodge diesel 3/4T pickup with a dudly (dead automatic)
transmission. We bought it for $400 bucks!

We're now drivin' it! Of course, after a transmission rebuild, buying
some missing parts from a junkyard, and 4 top of the line commercial
Michelin XP rib traction tires, it is now about a $2500 dollar truck.

But we like it a lot. You just can't have too many old Dodge Cummins
pickups.

Over and out.

With a wife like that, you should be gloating, How did you two meet?
