Hi all,
a picture of the Moon, taken on the 25th of last month.
Toucam pro with IR-cut filter at the prime focus of a C8, mosaïc of 45
frames.
Too much turbulence to do a really good picture, but I wanted to do it, for
the memory of a friend who suddenly left us and who loved these pictures.

Norbert,
Your image is exquisite. I was first attracted to that fine
ribbon of Altai Scarp stemming from that great trio of Theophilus,
Cyrillus and Catherina. It's very well resolved.
I have always been fascinated by the band of dark lava that
separates Tranquility and Serenity. More recently I have come
to understand that those titanium rich lavas flowed out of
Tranquility and *around the edges* of Serenity. Why? Why not
flow straight out into the other Mare?
It's because Serenity is *domed* i.e. the center is higher
than the edges which your foto shows handsomely when you
enlarge. (The shadow in Serenity is well in front of the terminator.)
I had to file this one Norbert and your friend is well remembered
by it.
Thanks for the post,
Ben

Wow. _I'd_ call that "really good." Thanks.

Thank you everybody for your comments.
I'll try to do better next time if turbulence is a bit lower ;-)

Wow, that was nice. They make my tourist shots taken the same night
(that I posted before) look pretty bad
http://www.comsketch.com/moon2january2507
http://www.comsketch.com/moon1january2507
I'm happy we both were out the same night. I guess my post was good
for comparison purposes anyway (i.e. what not to do.) :^)
90mm chromatic refractor versus 8" mirror, webcam versus point &
shoot, taking time to process it.
My lessons learned:
*IR filtering seems like a good thing.
*Mosaics take time to process but can look so nice.
*The resolution of a higher aperture makes it worth the effort to drag
out a bigger scope, it's so crisp; you feel like you are hovering over
the surface.
*Don't post images unless they are really, really damned good; and
even then there's always something better.
Thanks for your nice moon shot. I can't imagine what it would have
looked like without turbulence. If you haven't posted your shot to
http://lpod.org already, I'd give it a try.
Regards, Jason H.

But if you want to take this kind of pictures, you've done the right thing.
Next time, they will be better, and so on...

Not only to process, it's quite long to take too

If you're waiting for the best picture ever taken, you will never post
anything

Thanks for the link, I didn't realize that lpod was on again.
