Figure out how you would like to be treated by a professional - the
ones that come to mind are counselors, therapists, psychiatrists - and
just call around using the yellow pages. Ask them how they treat their
clients after you have explained your problem. If you hear a voice you
like and they describe an approach you like, choose them. |

Greetings,[/quote:485180730f]
I went through Reiki and relaxation therapy and they made it worse,
not better. The conventional psychs are not doing much better, I'm
having it right now. I wish you well, but I sometimes feel you don't
ever get RID of these things per se, they are simply sometimes nearer
the surface than others.
Regards,
Ray. |

Typically you don't actually get *rid* of memories - they are a part of your[/quote:d290697c93]
history and always will be. The trick is to learn how to deal with them so
that they don't overwhelm you.
EMDR is one method that purports to help allay the emotional response to
traumatic memories. There is also systematic desensitization, hypnosis,
medication, etc. You may benefit from a more traditional talk therapy
approach in which you explore with a therapist potential reasons why this
memory in particular is sticking with you - if there are any underlying
issues connected to it. If so, sorting them out might reduce the impact of
this particular memory. I agree with the pp who said to call around and ask
different professionals to describe what they do and then make a choice
based on what you hear. Good luck! |
