The Parent Association of Stuyvesant High School is
reaching out to find a qualified and certified
teacher of Hebrew Language, all levels, for Stuyvesant
High School. A highly successful program has taught Hebrew
there for more than 30 years and currently has 61 students,
but the recent teacher has fallen ill, and we are in need
of a replacement immediately. The current substitute is willing to
stay until April only. We need someone to complete
the term with current students, many of whom are
preparing for the 3rd year Regents exam. We may also need a
teacher this coming fall.
Our Principal, Stanley Teitel, is asking for someone
who has teaching certification (both NYS certification and a
NYC license), but a temporary license may be
sufficient, particularly if the individual is willing to apply for
certification, or if his/her certification is pending.
The current opening is for a part-time position to teach three
classes each day, five mornings per week. The upper class will
include some students doing advanced independent work. Each
class is approximately 50 minutes. If the recent teacher does
not return, and we need a teacher for this fall, the position
might be a full-time position, however, in such case, going
forward the Principal would prefer someone who can also teach one
or two Social Studies class, since only 3 classes in Hebrew will
run for the spring semester and only 3 or at most 4 will run next
fall.
Any current teachers or college graduates (with or without advanced
degrees) who are interested in this position, please forward all
background materials and copies of licenses, transcripts and
certificates to the principal, Mr. Stanley Teitel, at
teitels@stuy.edu, and the Assistant Principal for Foreign Languages,
Dr. Rolf Schwagerman, at
schwager@stuy.edu, and please send a copy
to the President of the PA, Lori Pandolfo, at
loripandolfo@yahoo.com.
Also, send a hard copy by fax to 212-312-4958 to Principal Stanley
Teitel and Assistant Principal Dr. Rolf Schwagermann at 345 Chambers
St., New York, NY 10282.
Feel free to call Seth A. Akabas, a parent coordinator, at
(212) 308-8505 during the day, or at (212) 316-4027 in the evening,
for any questions.
