Can someone here tell me what the main characteristics are of the Indo-European language family. Same question for Semitic languages.

Are you posting from Cuba?
A good book that will give you some answers to this sort of question is
*A Dictionary of Languages* by Andrew Dalby.
But it would be hard to start to reply without knowing how much you know
about the ways languages are described!

You must realize that, in time, languages shed their original
characteristics
and acquire new ones.
Think about your question now. Did you mean "what characteristics do
Indo-european languages still have in common?" or something else?
Think about it a bit. The nice thing about linguistics is that
you don't need any special knowledge. Only (with a name like yours
I suppose you read French) une tête bien faite plutôt qu'une tête
bien pleine. |

Indo-European is a bit too unspecific. You should have said Germanic
or something like that. |

From his grandmother's computer in Cuba more precisely (or is granma not
grandma)? |
