SPIRITUALLY LITERATE NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

1. I will live in the present moment. I will not obsess about the past
or worry about the future.

2. I will cultivate the art of making connections. I will pay attention
to how my life is intimately related to all life on the planet.

3. I will be thankful for all the blessings in my life. I will spell out
my days with a grammar of gratitude.

4. I will practice hospitality in a world where too often strangers are
feared, enemies are hated, and the "other" is shunned. I will welcome
guests and alien ideas with graciousness.

5. I will seek liberty and justice for all. I will work for a free and a
fair world.

6. I will add to the planet's fund of good will by practising little
acts of kindness, brief words of encouragement, and manifold
expressions of courtesy.

7. I will cultivate the skill of deep listening. I will remember that
all things in the world want to be heard, as do the many voices inside
me.

8. I will practice reverence for life by seeing the sacred in, with, and
under all things of the world.

9. I will give up trying to hide, deny, or escape from my imperfections.
I will listen to what my shadow side has to say to me.

10. I will be willing to learn from the spiritual teachers all around
me, however unlikely or unlike me they may be.

Pass it around and have a GREAT new year!

11. Let Love rule

Love does rule, we just need to recognize this. If we don't, then all we got
are those "I will's". up above.

Christ gave us the Golden Rule and
The Sermon on the Mount.

very straight, clear and right on.

Buddha gave us much the same message. even before Christ. And there are still
those who are continuing to spread the word.

What more do we need.

All of the 'doings' or the "I will's" can only be actualized from the base
knowing of these fundamental truths. The actions naturally follow from the
understanding and the knowing. No, "I will's are "necessary. They are
already a reality and an actuality, if the base is true and sincere.

I would love to be part of something like that, but I don't understand your
religious language. Can someone explain this to atheists like me, in a way
that requires no leap of faith? You must understand that we atheists trust
only our five senses.

I'm having trouble understanding how you see it as religious language because
I don't consider myself to be religious. But a truth is a truth, no matter
it's presentation.

I wish I could explain, but I'm not very good at explanations in matters
such as this.
Perhaps someone with a talent for this could try. But to declare oneself an
"atheist" or conversely, a 'believer' without doubt", I think would already
limit the openess it takes to see the truth in the first place.

Maybe that leap of faith is necessary. I don't know.
