Why are there so many different religions?
Why do the members of each religion think they are right and
everyone else is wrong?

But thank the gods there isn't just one religion for the whole wide world,
the way they all are trying to succeed at.
If that happened, I think I would die from being bored to death.

Presumably because no-one really knows these things for sure, so religions
are just theories, based on very little evidence, and much of that highly
doubtful.

Almost part of the definition of an organised 'religion', a claim of
certainty about God etc. Very few preists in history have ever said 'this is
our best guess, but who knows, maybe the [insert another competeing
religions name here] have got it all right and we are wrong, or we each have
some good ideas and some terrible ones, anywhooo who knows after all'.

Surely there is a truth?

Do you think truth cares about the effects on you?
Because there are so many different people in different places, I suspect.

Languages also vary similarly. The common factor is our
common human brain that supports a virtual reality with
common constraints. Within those constraints, the virtual reality
varies with familial and cultural constraints.

It will be interesting to encounter space alien religions.
They exist within the same mystery as do 'we'. Their brains
and cultures will be sort of different.

As far as any 'truth' in 'our' religions, the only consideration
is any effect on our brain and behavior. 'We' do need 'our'
stories, including civilizing stories, such as those proposed for
destruction by the so called 'progressives' or 'liberals'.
Some 'new' civilizing stories would also be appreciated.

I see it this way - religions used to be organic and oral. Then came
writing and civilization. Writing allowed belief systems to be frozen in
the sacred texts and civilization began the race of domination and
consolidation.

This is not true. Many religions allow for different beliefs.
Christianity and Islam on the other hand are very exclusive to
non-believers.

Only a few religions are looking to convert people. Many are just part
of the culture.

Your title suggest it. These religions are many viewpoints of the one
true "reality". Look into what the mystics are saying. Mystic from all
over the world sound similar.
