Listeros,
The tiny URL I sent for the Underwater Maya site exploration in Lake
Atitlan has been hacked and links to a Japanese porn site. Yikes! I
will not use that tiny URL service any longer. I can imagine what
would have happened if I were still teaching and had sent that story
out to my students with that tiny URL. These are the hazards of online
education. I have reposted the story with a legitimate tiny URL which
I hope will remain kosher. I am using the Firefox/Mozilla tool from
now on.

Listeros,
Scuba divers are exploring a Maya site found at the bottom of a
volcanic lake by an amateur explorer. The site is called Samabaj and
was discovered 12 years ago in Lake Atitlan. Professional
archaeologists are now exploring the site with sonar technology and
excavating structures on the lake bed, 50 feet below. The island site
was flooded in 250 CE by volcanic action. 6 monuments and 4 altars
have been found. The island site appears to be a pilgrimage
destination. The exact location has been kept secret to keep out
looters.
