MT Chat - down for maintenance...

I have taken the site down for maintenance pending moving it to a new
host and doing a completely clean install of the board software.

I anticipate this will happen early next week, hopefully earlier
rather than later. I just feel at this time it's best to take it down
completely and get the problem fixed, rather than continue putting
people's computers at risk.

Thanks for your support - I have plans to bring back some of the
holiday celebrations, so it WILL be back! (I've already started
squirelling goodies, virtually speaking!)

Thanks for the update, Julie! I, and I'm sure lots of other folks, are
really looking forward to the return of MT Chat!

Don't forget to get the latest version of your board software for your
install. I subscribe to a security email and frequently see security
vulnerabilities and patches for most free software.

If you'll tell me what software you're using, I'll keep an eye out for
bugs and fixes.

Good luck,

Bob/Texas

Thanks, Bob. It has been running the latest version of the board
software. I am told by a couple of super sleuths that the problem lies
with the host and its vulnerability to hacking.

Just an update: The database has been scanned for viruses and was
clean.

I am waiting on Elsevier to change the host server information. At
that point, the database will be restored and the site reactivated
with a clean install of the board software. There will be no data loss
as a result of the move to a new host. It will take me a day or two to
clean up some things on the board before I reopen it.

Every time I have to deal with a large bureaucratic organization
(like, when I was doing a teaching hospital account), I picture a road
where the bureaucratic organization is a heavy cart being pulled by
oxen and small business is light cavalry dashing around past the
carts, but occasionally being slowed down when a cart blocks the
road! Smile

Julie,

I'm glad you're getting it straightened out.

What Operating System was the old server running?
What Operating System will the new server be running?

Thanks,

Bob/Texas
