First parents can't spank their kids, and now using soap is a crime.
What's next?
No wonder so many of them are acting up in public since they know they
won't be punished. I'm starting to dread going shopping because of all
the young children in the stores screaming to get their way.
I did that once and only once when I was about six. Mum stopped my
tantrum by pulling down my underpants and swatting my bare bum right
there in front of God and everyone else watching. I got the message
and behaved in public after that.
What do any of you think of the way children behave in public
nowadays?

I think it's the way they are treated overall that makes them act the
way they do in public. They should be disciplined properly at home
and it would carry into public. It may seem easy, for example, to
tolerate jumping up and down from the dinner table at home, and then
wonder why it happens in a restaurant. Kids will act about how you
expect them to, by and large. They will also be kids from time to
time!
I would never pull my child's pants down in public and humiliate him
that way, because I personally don't think that's discipline. But I
would punish him immediately, even if it meant I had to cut my own
shopping trip short to do so. Of course, my little one's not quite
old enough for a whole lot of that yet, and my older one is 23 years
old, but when I see other people's kids, I tend to be pretty tolerant
because I've been there.

Oh, forgot to address the soap issue. I got my mouth washed out with
soap and survived just fine, but pouring or rubbing chemicals not
meant for eating is not a good idea, and I think it's just plain
cruel. I don't know that anybody would get charged for it here, or
what I would do if they did, but there are children who have died in
extreme cases from that type of punishment, so I think it's best to
avoid it.
