We are observing some strange seismologic events at Station EHIG, In the
Canary Island, La Palma.

We are doing so, by reading data released by the IGN (Spanish Intituto
Geográfico Nacional), via IGN web site:
http://www.ign.es/ign/es/IGN/volcanologia_senales.jsp

I am asking myself if the following events could be considered as a swarm of
volcanic Long Period ones, so some kind of magamatic presurization is
happening or, it they could be considered as a product of nearby human
activity, wind or whatever.

A 24 hour seismogram:

http://www.ign.es/ign/sismo/volcanologia/EHIG/imagenes_sismica/DIA/EHIG_2009-08-16.jpg

And its spectrogram:
http://www.ign.es/ign/home/geofisica/volcanologia/senales_dias_anteriores_dia.jsp?nombreFichero=EHIG_2009-08-16&estacion=EHIG&Anio=2009&Mes=08&Dia=16&tipo=2#

An one hour seisimogram of the day shown before:
http://www.ign.es/ign/sismo/volcanologia/EHIG/imagenes_sismica/HORA/EHIG_2009-08-16_03-04.jpg

And its spectrogram:
http://www.ign.es/ign/sismo/volcanologia/EHIG/imagenes_sismica/HORA_SP/EHIG_2009-08-16_03-04_sp.jpg

I would be interested in your opinnions.

I am just a canary citizen who has not too much confidence in our
politicians ;)

Thanks in advance.

Just me, and my monkey.

Any way, could those waves be produced by vehicles ?

Unlikely. Unless the station is next to a railroad, which in your
location I'm pretty certain it is not. The period is too long for
individual vehicles.

If the number of events increases and the "noise floor" comes up,
that might be significant. The staff seismologists would be best
qualified to interprete these readings, and the Web site should
have a detailed history and explanation of activity. My Spanish is
almost nonexistant, so I can't help much there.

I live in the West Coast of the US.  I was wondering since you are
local of the Canaries, if you have reports of TREMORS, can you email
me and let me know ahead of time. Thank you.  ASTEROIDJACQ... at (no spam) AOL.COM

Actually, it's the original poster who is the local Canaries resident
-- in La Palma, I believe. There are several good links in this thread
to close-to-real-time seismograms of any tremors that might occur in
the area. You could also check out something like the USGS Earthquake
Notification Service at https://sslearthquake.usgs.gov/ens/?page=help
if you're interested in email notifications.

Good luck!

The reality is that scientists are the public, too.

Far from abandoning him/her to "taking the hit," I find the original
poster's comment on the whole thing sublime. People are so wonderful,
all over the world.

Here is a very useful Web site (in Spanish) for information on
earthquakes and volcanism in the Canaries (hat tip to the Volcanism
Blog):

No doubt they are tremors.
