Most of the statistical packages used today descend in great part from
the BMD Biomedical Computer Programs initiated as a Thesis project by
W.J. Dixon, under the grant FR-3 of the Division of Research
Facilities of the National Institute of Health (USA).
Thus the program source is in the public domain.

The first edition was published in late 1963 and updated 1965, 1966
and 1970.

The Automatic Computation No 2 of 1970 from University of California
Press (L.A., 1979) covers most of the Fortran programs of the series.
I have both the original source and updated F77 source of almst all of
the original set, and the associated test data and listings of
expected results.

SPSS and BMDP are direct descedants.
