Dear all,
I am writing an essay on the topic in the subject: Toxicity of carbon
nanotubes and fullerenes. I am looking for the first paper on the
research in this field, mostly because I want to know when was the
toxicity of carbon nanomaterials first researched, and who were the
pioneers.

If you haven't already checked it, "Nanomedicine Volume IIA:
Biocompatibility" by Robet Freitas Jr is a useful resource. He lists a
rather extensive bibliography.
But I think it is going to difficult to nail down a "first paper" on
toxicity because the definition of "carbon nanomaterials" can include
things like diamond and graphite (e.g. black lung disease.) And even if you
include only nanotubes and fullerenes, a "first" paper may deal with
toxicity on some rather narrow scope, which may not be quite what you had
in mind. Still, I suspect by including only nanotubes and fullerenes you can
probably narrow your search to papers from about 1990 and onwards, since prior
to that time there weren't known ways of producing macro quantities of either
material to perform biological toxicity studies. |
