Elaine at AAT on TED:
It's an organisation, originating in America, for pooling ideas - on
technology, design, science, politics, entertainment - and putting people
with ideas in touch with entrepreneurs looking for new approaches. But
anybody with a burning conviction may be given a hearing even if it's not a
money-making idea. People there from many countries. Held in Oxford. Each
speaker is allowed 18 minutes to talk about any idea that they want to get
off their chest. Previous speakers have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates,
Richard Dawkins... Our Prime Minister was there on the Monday. I got a
standing ovation and there's been a lot of feedback. Elaine, you sounded
quite capable and professional and covered the vitals in such a short time.
Your accent always throws me at first, so different from coastal
Californian, but pleasant.

You've delivered the key idea to the next (or next next) generation, I think
they see the sense in it, at least not responding unintelligibly or
silently. I guess the TED talks are a good idea, glad they're on the net.

Thank you very much. I hope it may make it harder to ignore the idea. Here
is a report from the organiser Chris Anderson:
Dear Elaine,
I hope you've been able to see a portion of the extraordinary reaction to
your talk resonating all over the internet.
As well as the avalanche of comments on our own site (far more than for most
talks at this early stage) your talk has just hit the front page of one of
the popular content-sourcing sites called digg where probably more than
20,000 people will see the talk and many have already commented. The link is
here:

There are also hundreds of comments on Twitter:

.... on youtube:

....and many other places around the web.
Many people enthralled by what you had to say, and looks like various
scientists sticking up for you too.
We estimate that already more than 60,000 people have seen the talk and I
suspect another 10,000 every day for the next few days. I'm sure that by the
end of the year your viewing numbers will be in the hundreds of thousands.

It was an astonishing piece of luck that I got invited. --Elaine
