Stupid, no?

(Look, I know that Jennoid is deeply troubled by her son's autism;
that's still no excuse.)

-Chris Krolczyk

it really looks like this person has created a straw position for
mccarthy
and then dismantled it. she is simply anti-vaccine. lots of autism
cases seem to be linked and yet instead of looking into it we've got
the "science fundies" defending the theory of vaccination and
ignoring the possible side effects.

Except the only study done which showed any coupling was found to
have been cooked. the doctor which did the study has been
completely discredited.

i'd be more concerned about the studies which have "disproved" this
and
where they are, actually. if there aren't any, then the claim that
vaccines are as safe as milk aren't supported by much other than hot
air.

just sayin'.

The point is the vaccines are safer than no prevention.

only for the people who don't get autism. if it were you or your child,
you'd likely have a different opinion of that "safety". safety and
security are only states of mind, not actual tangible things.

The risk is just what I explained.
the 1918-1919 flu pandemic effects
850,000/1,000,000 people (90% of the population) sick
45,000/ 850,000 dead
compared to the risk of GBS
1/1,000,000 ill with GBS.

as i said... if your kid died or was a half-vegetable forever, you'd have
a different way of determining what is a risk.

That's why risk assessment is best done by others. Even with the
known risk of GBS which isn't fatal or debilitating, I wold have the
Flu shot.

BTW I see you claim to work in genomics. are you aware of the
connection with Autism and a defect in mitochondrial DNA gene T2387C?
(it took me a bit to find that article which mentioned this finding.
about 20%-30% of ASD cases seems to have mitochondrial disease in the
study I read.

since the government is going to force people to take these vaccines,
are they going to cover all of the costs of treatment and maintenance
for anybody who gets autism from them?

Actually in one recent 2008 case it appears the answer is yes.

The expense is far less for vaccinations that a flu pandemic.

a pandemic is caused by lack of socialized health care. this is why they
happen in the 3rd world and in similar settings like post-katrina new
orleans.

A pandemic is caused because people do not stay home when they are
sick. I all to often work with morons and idiot the go to work with
fevers and runny nosed, coughing and hacking.

Pandemics are caused by overly mobile population, that covers
territory faster and faster all the time.

Pandemics are caused by large numbers of mobile un-innocuated people
and children, which are nothing more than disease vectors.

Socialized Medicine has little do with pandemics. Vaccines are
readily available and people refuse to get them even today.

the Flu pandemic of 1918-1919 infected about 850,000 people. It
killed a Conservative estimate of 45,000 people. I seen the estimate
as high as 65,000.

so?

The risk isn't a lack of sanitation, as you've claimed elsewhere.

it's a lack of people having a doctor to go to when they are sick. in the
1900's it might have been sanitation (no running water/sewage) and lack of
doctors.

The pandemic was reposted to have started on military bases and
spread to the civilian populations. This was actually one of the 1st
major computer simulations run by the CDC.

So, If (that's a big IF, evidence shows it isn't the flu vaccine but
a virus, Campylobacter jejuni), the flu vaccine is responsible for
Gillian Barre Syndrome it effected one person in a million.

it appears that you are okay with big IFs... i want to see the evidence,
thanks.

Do you own homework of GBS and The virus involved. and yes increase
sanitation is the key to the control of the virus Campylobacter
jejuni.

i would like to think that the government should be able to easily prove
this "homework" even if you can't.

The last several years the major outbreaks of food poisoning has been
caused by sanitation issues.

Compare The Risk: 1 person ill per million from GBS versus 45,000+
per million people dead.

I take the risk.

if you exercise regularly and have a working immune system, there is not
really any risk.

Not according to the studies. Flu hit you without any consideration
of your health. The risk during infection is damage to heart and
kidneys. Secondary infections odds go up because you immune system is
weaken by the Flu virus.

yeah... if i got the flu i would be sitting at home drinking liquids and
eating healthy. if some poor SOB working 2 jobs gets the flu, he goes to
work and sneezes all over your burger or pizza. people need health care
that does not jeopardize their livelihood or bank accounts.

I agree. I stay home when I am sick. Too many morons do not.

morons?

no dude... too many people are working jobs that offer no healthcare AND no
job security. i have friends who work with broken arms and all kinds of
stuff because they are college kids who need to work to live. if they call
off, they are fired.
[/quote:e8af8cedf2]
Unions are our friends, really.

[quote:e8af8cedf2]sure... you and i have 3 paid days a month and weeks of sick leave available
because we have salaried jobs. these pandemics are going to spread like
wildfire amongst the poor and then be transmitted to you and me because
they are forced to work like slaves.
[/quote:e8af8cedf2]
I got no sick leave, and no paid days a moth. I work 6/12/week, over
time is not optional. Refusal to work is enough to get you fired.

The only thing they allow is unpaid time off, sick. and then you have
to see a MD and have a note.

I am one of those wage slaves, no salary position. If I do not work,
I don't get paid. Even my spare job is such that if I don't work I
don't get paid.

[quote:e8af8cedf2]everybody is always getting retarded worried about flu shots and i've
never
had one in my life and only ever had the flu once in 32 years. i'm not
about to start.

Lucky you, then. I have it several times because someone else sent
their kids to school sick, or a co-worker came to work sick. in the
last 40 years, I have the flu maybe 4 or 5 times. But then because I
get exposed and travel a lot, It is best to get the shots. The risk
management says it is better to get the shot than end up sick for
10-14 days if you don't get any complications.

the risk management says that you might want to wash your hands more often,
actually.
[/quote:e8af8cedf2]
got that covered.

You're aware of a recent study which showed the majority of people
didn't wash their hands after using the bathroom?

[quote:e8af8cedf2]fat unhealthy people who chainsmoke cigs? different story.

No, People in good physical condition which didn't smoke. The rate
people that smoked in 1918-1919 was about 5-10 percent of today's
smoking population.

they were smoking real tobacco, though. you really should consider more
when making these comparisons. how many people in 1918 had a healthcare
plan that could treat the early symptoms of flu and let people know that
they shouldn't go infecting other people?

The common tobacco had something like 1/3 of the nicotine of today's
tobacco,. and it was untreated, (not washed with nitrate compounds
during the drying phase.

if it had less nicotine then people would smoke more of it to achieve the
desired effect. and yes, it would not have nitrates and
who-knows-what-else added.
[/quote:e8af8cedf2]
Actually less people smoked and most of the tobacco sold was loose.
Most people rolled their own.

[quote:e8af8cedf2]again as i said previously: lots of things to take into account, there.

Most people were not as mobile either. I would say medicare heath
care was nearly non-exisitance outside of major cities and even then
it was usually only the wealthy that got 1st rate medical care.

so they likely walked around a lot with serious infections and compromised
immune systems, no? they also died from a lot of serious infections, fwiw.
[/quote:e8af8cedf2]
Tetanus was still common. As was whooping cough, measles, mumps and
rubella.

[quote:e8af8cedf2](that figure depended on the socio-economic
backgrounds and place where the people lived.)

i contend that it depends on a hell of a lot more than just that.

No, the data shows it did depend on where the people lived and
worked. (and how many different people that they made contact with on
a daily basis.)

but not whether they had immediate health care available or not?
[/quote:e8af8cedf2]
that was really the not a major factor. it was the mobility factor.

[quote:e8af8cedf2]In the 80's there was a computer article which had some major
articles of the modeling and programming simulations virus
infections.

which part of the computer program took into account how many of the
infected people would go to the doctor and get it under control, realize
they are contagious, and not get fired for taking leave from work?
[/quote:e8af8cedf2]
That was included in the program. The results of having medical care
after the infection, cut the simulated mortality rates by 1/3. using
the 1918-1919 pandemic as an example, you still have 30,000 dead
bodies. The best bang however for the buck spent was inoculations
which cut the infection rate by 95%. The simulation showed limiting
the 'rate of infection' with inoculations saved more lives per dollar
spent.

Most flu virus is most often inhaled, and is transmitted by coughing.

[quote:e8af8cedf2]kooky world we live in eh?

Very.

The problem is if the vaccines are not responsible the greater
danger is from not vaccinating your children. Once the critical herd
immunity fails a cascade effect takes place with the cases of
non-immunized people falling ill with a domino effect. This will
make the epidemics of 100 years ago look like a minor outbreak. Our
society is 10,000 times more mobile now than it was 100 years ago
and each of those mobile persons have will become a vector. The
unvaccinated will become ill and in most cases, suffer greatly and
maybe die or barely survive.

sounds akin to global warming conspiracy talk to me.

Useful, if you're interested in the subject, but not at all relevant.
Please post your info in a more suitable group next time. Alt.astrology in
particular has enough trouble with the regular users posting wildly
off-topic, without anyone else starting.
Thanks anyway. A well-written article which deserves to be posted in the

Knowing some of the pure bilge that a.a's lesser light have
