The reason why it's likely that there will be battery breakthroughs in
the future is the appalling ignorance of heat, mass and momentum
transfer in so many fields where it would really help.

The only question is will it be te near future or too late?

Recently an acquaintence asked why, say, medical education would
bother with momentum transfer.

"Ever hear of heart disease? Did you know resistance to flow in a
tube increases with the inverse FOURTH power of diameter?"

A lot of this stuff they are messing up on was done decades or
centuries ago.

Next time you stop by the liberry drop a not into the suggestion box.
Tell the librarian to get a heat transfer handbook and a textbook on
heat mass and momentum transfer.
