Dear all,
I am a Physics student and I am now beginning to study the basics of
DS. Can you suggest me a free software (running on linux) that I could
use for plotting dynamical systems, at least in two dymensions? I
suppose Mathematica usually is the software of choice, but I would
rather use a free alternative. Sorry if this is a duplicate thread,
but I could not find the answer.
Thank you,
Andrea |

Check out this list:

You might like to try XPP, PyDSTool, or Content. I'm assuming you need
to solve equations as well as plot them. XPP is especially great for
2D (phase plane) systems and their plots, and is pretty easy to use
with an online tutorial. Or you might like the free Matlab alternative
Octave, http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/
Good luck! |

In addition to the other good suggestions made already, I would
recommend the java applets dfield and pplane:
