Commemorating the X-15: A new patch that is designed to honor the men who
first flew a winged rocket ship to the edge of space. The central theme of
the patch is the launch of the X-15 from its carrier aircraft (A Boieng
B-52) It flies to where the sky turns black. The twelve men who piloted the
X-15 are listed in the order by which they made their first flight. The 12
stars in the sky represent the branch of service of the pilots. The 6 white
stars are for the civilians, 5 silver stars for the USAF pilots, and 1 gold
star for the US navy pilot. This is a 6" wide fully embroidered patch.
