Your opinions would be appreciated. I'm taking an EKG technician course
at a community college. One of the ladies in the group missed the first
week, showed up for the next five weeks, and is not coming back for the
rest of the course. Why? She used to work in some capacity of rental
properties and was laid off. She was looking for something that was
"quick and would earn her a lot of money." Seems she just recently got
a job as another rental property person and will not be returning to
finish classes. Here's the kicker - her $1,000 tuition was paid for
with taxpayer dollars in the form of a government re-training program.
I'm pissed as hell. I think she should be made to re-pay that money
back to the re-training program. Is my anger justified?

Quote: When I was doing cardiology, and also because I wanted to understand my
husbands EKG's better, I bought a little book called "Flip and See ECG.
It's pretty basic, but it helped quite a bit.
My cardiologist turns off the "reports" on his machine. Says they aren't
accurate and if the patient sees a false "abnormal" it gets them
needlessly upset.

I'm impressed by that.
It demonstrates a sensitivity towards patients that is pretty rare today.
The GP's, unfortunately, seem to have forgotten (if they ever learned) the
most basic aspects of EKG interpretation and many of them rely on those
lousy computer interpretations.
Oh well, it helps keep me busy if nothing else.

The big advantage to me of being an MT for nearly 20 years is that I know
which doctors to go to! I did this cardiologist for several years, and knew
he cared about his patients. However, he was old-fashioned enough to not
want to go digital, and I finally gave him up, but both my husband and I
still use him as a cardiologist. My ortho for whom I have done
transcription for about 18 years is also a caring doctor, and one I trust
completely. He, and my primary, give me good advice if I need to see a
specialist. These doctors have steered us in the right direction whenever
we have needed to choose. A very important side benefit of the job.

I agree - it's wrong. Probably nothing will happen in her case, but you
could try writing appropriate entities anyway, and then a letter to a
state representative or someone to close that loophole. The rest of us
are hemorrhaging to death paying taxes. These programs are certainly
worthwhile and worthy in that they will put people back to work and keep
them off welfare, but allowing them to just quit and there be no
consequences - ridiculous.
