It is generally believed that it took hundreds of millions of years
for our fossil fuel supply to be
created. On the other hand it could only take a few hundred years for
us to burn them up.
What is the ratio for the time of creation to the time of consumption?
It is probably safe to say
that it is of the order of a million to one! Let's just use an
arbitrary analogy for comparative
purposes. What king or queen (of the ancient world) would have been
happy if it took his
servants a million man hours to produce an elaborate toy for the
prince and then the prince
destroyed the toy in only an hour? Do you think that Mother Nature “is
happy” about the
rate at which we are burning the fossil fuels that “she created”?
