Hello,
Who can help with the following.
I need the Russian words (in English transliteration please) of
"Sacred Band".
The words are used in a chapter of a book dealing with terrorism in
Russia in the 19th century.
Sacred Band is described as 'a counter-terror grouping.'
In English "Sacred Band" (apart from it's literal meaning) also refers
to an elitist (homosexual?) corps in ancient Greece.
In Dutch this is usually translated as: Heilige Schare.
Is anybody familiar with this very detailed aspect of Russian history?
If I can get the Russian words, I should be able to check it out on the
internet.
Unfortunately, I do not speak Russian, but I have a basic knowledge of
reading Cyrillic words. That's sometimes helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Frans Stoks |

Greek XIX century group also called "Sacred band" is translated
as "Священный отряд" (Svyashcheny otryad), as well as ancient
greek corps from Thebes - Священный отряд из Фив (Svyashchenny
Otryad iz Fiv). I suppose that russian grouping would have the
same name.
