My son is over 16 and is about 5'8'' and very skinny.
He didn't reach puberty yet and has no interest in girls at all.
I have some Playboy mags in my office and he never even cares to look
through them. (I was into porn when I was around 13 or so, like most
normal boys and had emissions around the same time).
I wonder if:
- this is normal and he is just a bit late in developing
- he needs supplements of some sort
- he (God forbid) does not like the opposite sex
Should I see a specialist about this or just wait a bit? My wife is
very concerned as well.
Thanks

What does his regular doctor say to your questions?
If you haven't asked, why not?
There's a theory that says if he has the genetic predisposition for
homosexuality, then there may be little you can do to change that.
I've heard that ~10% of humans are homosexual.
You could get his testosterone level, and other things, checked to see
if it's "normal" for his age.
You could take him to a specialist and see if there is anything wrong
or to be concerned about.
You could talk to him. Find a way to discuss sex with him and get his
opinions on what he finds sexual. Does he masturbate, if so, images
or erotic lit?
You could just wait a couple of years and see what happens. If he
hasn't shown any interest in some kind of sex by 18, then I would ask
his doctor to examine him and suggest what to do.
Is he depressed? Some medicines affect libido.
Is he obsessed with intellectual pursuits? video games? music?
He may be asexual or uninterested till puberty hormones start kicking
in.
Some people never have a strong sexual drive.
By no puberty, you're saying he has none of the signs, like voice,
facial or pubic hair?
What kind of internet sites and images does he look at, anything
erotic or sexual?
Does he look at anything erotic at all, tv, movies, mags, music
videos, etc. What does he do when this stuff comes on, change the
channel, leave the room, etc?
Any girl or boyfriends?
Your homophobia will more than likely increase his fear of expressing
it to you if he is indeed homosexual. He will just hide it from you
and act like he isn't interested in sex at all. He may be afraid to
tell you the truth or a lie, so he hides both and says nothing.
Effiminance is not a sure sign of homosexuality. I had a friend in
college who was very effeminant, average height and slender and bedded
more girls than all his many male friends combined. He was one of the
great mysteries of my college years.
supplements probably couldn't do anything, but they promise the world.
Good nutrition and regular exercise helps everyone.
