Can someone help me solve a sentimental mystery? I had a 14 year old
cassette tape of my childrens voices (from infants cries, as toddlers
reciting their ABCs, etc) in a night stand...along with an unused cell phone
and a pair of earphones! Mysteriously, and (and sadly might I say) when I
went to play that cassette tape today...95% of the tape was erased...as in
nothing was there that had been previously recorded! I'm shocked, saddened,
and confused. Could something scientific have happened or do I need to call
the FBI? This really has me puzzled. |

Magnets in the earphones / cellphone probably erased the tape. Cheap
cassette tapes can also go bad from the oxide shedding and binder
breaking down with that much age. You could take it to an expert and
have them check it. There might be some weak magnetic signals left that
are recoverable.
