When I bought Blue Satyr last September, the salesman originally told
me only $2,500 could be put on my VISA. When I went to write a check
for the balance, the finance lady said she was allowing me to put over
$5,000 on my credit card since I had an 813 credit score.
I see now why they have to have a limit if they get charged a
percentage of the amount. I put as much as I can on my Chase/Amazon
VISA since the gift points add up for all the items I buy on
Amazon.com.

At the station where I usually buy gas, it's about 8 cents a gallon cheaper
to pay cash, so that's what I do. It's been that way for a long time.

Has this happened in your area yet? I always pay cash, but I am
curious if this will change the way you fill up your gas tank from now
on.

I kinda doubt the stations like Exxon or Mobil will stop taking their
own credit cards. I'd go elsewhere because I just rarely carry cash,
especially that much, with me. Right now it pays me to use credit card
at one of the above stations - 3% rebate, which at 4.00 a gallon is 12
cents.

I too always pay cash except when I travel out of town far enough to
need gas,, particularly to California. Then, even though it is a little
more expensive, I gas up at Chevron stations along the way using my
Chevron card rather than carrying a lot of cash (now a LOT more cash).

You got that right, Ruth - a A LOT more cash. Soon you'd need a Brinks
truck just to buy gas! I was standing at register in covenience store
other day when a guy comes in for 5 bucks' worth of gas. LOL.
Apparently, he only worked down the road. Used to be 5 bucks would get
you somewhere, now you'd only need a quart jar to carry that much - not
a big gas can.

I have used credit cards for years to get little discounts.
For example, we bought a bedroom set at Oak Express for around $2400. They
offered a "no payment" deal for a year if we financed with them. I pulled
out a credit card, then asked the sales person if they would give me a
discount for cash. He didn't know, but asked the manager, and the manager
said "sure". We got a 5% discount ($120) just by asking. I've done this
for years, especially at locally-owned stores. I was a little surprised
that a national chain store would give a discount.
Many times the sales person will not know the amount the credit card company
charges, but the manager or the owner certainly will, and it gripes them.
I've had them give me the entire amount of the credit card company's fee
just because they dislike paying it so much. It's a friendly little deal
between us - I save a few buck and they don't have to pay the credit card
company.

Judity - they are never giving anything away. We get rebates. I went to
order of of Amazon. They offered 30-dollar redit after making first
charge. I bought a book. Then I ordered something else. It actually went
a bit over the 30 bucks, but they still gave me a 0 balance on first
card - at least per what DH said. It was like 87 cents over or
something

((They were offering this
deal for new people signing up, so I wound up getting 30 dollars
given
to me just to apply for and use the card the first time. ))
Not a bad deal. The card does offer cash back, but I prefer the
Amazon.com gift certificates.
I checked, and I saved $175 at Amazon starting in October using the
gift certificates and spent another $255 for the full year. This
year, I've redeemed $100 in gift certificates so far and only had to
charge another $100.
Of course, the year's only half over, so those amounts probably will
go up. Can you tell I enjoy shopping at Amazon? (grinning)
