Hello,
Would anyone be able to confirm (or deny! that the "artificial
mechanisms" in the following sentence means "unconventional / unusual /
irregular, or is it closer to "ad hoc" perhaps?
"A representative makes requests for payment through artificial mechanisms,
such as a numbered bank. account in a third country."
Regards,

It sounds to me as here "artificial" means the opposite of "natural",
where a "natural mechanism" could be a normal account at the bank on
the next street corner. So I would understand "unusual".
"Irregular" would also do, because one can suspect that the mechanism
the representative is requesting has the purpose of concealing some
legal, fiscal, or other, irregularity.
