Hello all. I'm posting on behalf of my wife so this will all be referring to her condition. We're both avid rock climbers and hike all the time. About 5 months ago she started having pains in her left wrist. At first we thought that she'd developed an issue from climbing (over use etc) so being holistic in our approach to everything we went with chiropractic care.
After a few months of chiropractic care and no improvements (to our dismay) our chiropractor said you know that looks like a ganglion cyst, you should get it looked at.
She then went to see an orthopedist who in fact confirmed that it was a cyst, but rather than just remove/drain or otherwise relieve it, he ordered blood tests.
When she got the blood work done, one of the tests he requested was Lymes disease test. It came back 'inconclusive'. So he ordered another.
This time she had the Western Blot. It came back positive.
She has been on Doxycycline for two weeks now and is feeling a little bit worse. She also says that this now explains other 'symptoms' that she's experienced that she wasn't aware of:
Being tired, a little depressed lately, body aches etc.
Additionally he will not remove the cyst (until at the least next month) as he thought it more important to treat the Lyme first.
Now that we've identified this, we're looking for a Dr locally in the New York Hudson Valley area. We're in Putnam County, just over the Westchester line. We found one doctor but he doesn't accept our insurance.
Basically she wants to speak with someone re: the treatment, what she should expect etc. Its a little disconcerting to read everyone's posts, because she doesn't have all of the symptoms, but it scares her that they may come.
Any help, suggestions and general comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much time.
I apologize if this is too 'chunked' for those of you with issues reading large blocks. I've tried to break it up. Thanks.

Hi Red...
Removing the cyst is, IMHO, a waste of time, money and pain.
They only come back a few months later no matter how many times you
have them removed or broken. Currently I have two coming out of my
wrist, and it doesn't matter...surgeory, injections, whacking it...no
matter, it comes back. At least a dozen times now...
BUT, ask your doctor what's his average of people for whom it returns.
I'm certainly not a doctor, just someone who's wrist got hosed from
Lyme. Having it removed is way more painful than having the cysts, at
least in my experience. Possibly her experience will be better than
mine.
If I lived out there, I'd probably go to Dr. Leigner. But I am about
350 miles away!
