Does it mean anything to the contrast if a solar filter is placed in
front of the dew cap og inside the dew cap right in front of the
lense? Did any of you make comparisons?

I don't think it should noticeably affect the contrast, assuming that
the filter does not itself contain any refractive elements.

and if reflections arent severe, square it to the lens cell and
cover with a dew shield to shield from stray off axis light -

I have tried it with my binoculars, but at such low magnification (10x),
even a substantial adverse contrast effect might not be easily seen.
