In the past, I’ve read that because of the Vietnam War, the US lost its
direction for space exploration after Apollo 11 landed on the moon.
Today, I’ve read that because of the war in Iraq and terror, man will
not be going to Mars anytime soon, and perhaps only limited manned
exploration of the moon (depending on the presidents in the next 10-15
years). Then I hear that the idiot Obama wants to “postpone” Project
Constellation for 5 years so he can fund his education programs if he
becomes president (hopefully, he will not; too liberal in my opinion,
and too stupid). If I believe correctly, isn’t the Constellation program
all being done within the confines of NASA’s current annual budget? Does
that mean, Obama intend to slash NASA’s budget to fund his so-called
education programs? Then, I checked out the following link, and it makes
me even more angrier.

Obama is a complete idiot. He is just as bad as Walter Mondial was back
in 1984 when he vowed to curtail, or even scrapped, manned exploration
of outer space and put the money “saved” into social programs. That’s
probably why he lost big time. Perhaps the moron should re-read his
history. Obama is a person who is stuck in the past and is not
interested in looking towards the future. And in the end, everybody pays
the price for such stupidity. |

If it's your taxable private loot that's paying for whatever, go for
it. The public cookie jar of spare loot is tapped out, as of before
911. Thanks to our corrupt SEC that clearly doesn't give a damn,
lots of folks lost most if not all of their retirement and spare
collage loot, now losing their homes and even their transportation is
either going on the blocks or back to the original lender. Way to go,
government.

Heinlein had from Santayana, "Those who ignore the past are
condemned to repeat it." The piece of the past that America
seems locked into ignoring, is when in the early 1420's, the
Chinese burned their great exploration fleet. However, it's
not an easy nor simple topic; I'm troubled by comments such
as "...is a complete idiot" etc etc. Whoever wants to act
against such wrong-headed directions, will have no impact at
all if he won't stop and think about who is a party to what
for what reasons ... ideology and money are two core matters
such topics turn around. I don't think 'Paul' has read
Robert Winter-Berger, 'The Washington Payoff' nor any of the
several books lately illuminating some of the Bush Republican
policies implemented in Washington.
And nothing in Washington is simple. "If you want a friend
in Washington, get a dog." Anyone with a little attention to
details and some imagination can construct a whole different
story about Scott Bloch and the two thumb drives on his keys
chain: that those drives carry Names and Details; thus, when
all the hot air cools, Bloch will get his papers not to the
clink but (very quietly) to a very rich golden parachute. It
is in the structure of the place; thus, who starts with all
that strong language, hasn't a chance to arrive anywhere
useful nor do anything useful. In other words, that's no way
to get anywhere in sci.space.policy.

I didn't know that Walter Mondale was particularly worldly.

If because of others before your time is the reason why there's no
spare loot and hardly enough affordable fossil fuel for accomplishing
much of anything else (like your to/from work commute), then where is
the supposed "anti-space crusade"?
That would be the people who are preventing us from getting all our
energy for daily needs from nuclear power plants, using them to
produce the hydrogen for our cars, so that we would have plenty of
kerosene left for the first stages of rockets.

When you say nuclear, it had better be thorium. What's wrong with
those clean and failsafe thorium reactors making h2o2?
BTW, it's because of others before your time, plus those as of lately
is the reason why there's no spare loot, as well as hardly enough
affordable fossil fuel for accomplishing much of anything else (like
your to/from commute).
Where is the supposed Obama "anti-space crusade"? (because I don't see
it)
