I would like to start a discussion on econometric software
which I intend it prove useful for those who are trying to choose among.

There stand programmes like

Eviews
R
Ox
Stata
Gauss
Matlab
etc...

Let us discuss not the
the menu driven capabilities but
the programming capabilities of the programmes.

For instance, many econometricians use Gauss.
Then came Ox which has a clear language and fast.
Then we have R which also has a clean language but then it is free and has a
large user base...

So we can discuss to compare these programmes...
Which one a starter should choose?
