Allegedly.. "The on-going cost to keep LymeNet up and running on the
Internet is $325/month"

I really don't get it how that could be that expensive.

Hi LymeNet Users, Friends & Family,

Today I am kicking off the 2008 LymeNet FundDrive which will run for
four (4) weeks, ending on May 31, 2008. The link to our appeal for funds
is here:
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=019745

LymeNet can only continue its mission with your financial help. The
on-going cost to keep LymeNet up and running on the Internet is
$325/month, totaling $3900/year. I am setting the 2008 FundDrive goal at
$5000, which will give us a reserve just-in-case we encounter the
unexpected.

In the past we held our annual FundDrive during the months of October to
December. Based on input from some of our users indicating this was too
close to the year-end holidays when they were trying to save for gift
giving, celebrations, etc. we decided to permanently move the annual
FundDrive to the month of May, Lyme Disease Awareness Month. We also
have an another, more pressing reason to hold our annual FundDrive now.
The fall 2007 FundDrive fell short of expectations yielding only $1200.
Currently we have an account balance of $865, enough funds to keep
LymeNet up and running into July 2008. We cannot wait. The FundDrive
begins today.

Your donations will be used to keep LymeNet up and running for another
year and we will improve the services that LymeNet provides with a new
and more powerful server farm, a faster and broader Internet link and
upgraded software and security. We will also make the LymeNet Flash a
better, safer place for you to share information and help others.

We will post our goals and progress on the LymeNet Flash in this Topic.
Thank you for your generosity and continued support of LymeNet.
Donations can be made via PayPal by clicking on the “MAKE A DONATION”
button, on the upper left.
Checks made payable to The Lyme Disease Network, can be mailed to:

Dear LymeNet Users, Friends and Family,

In 1996, after many years of mystery illnesses, our daughter, Lori was
diagnosed with Lyme disease. We searched for answers to the fears we
were facing about our daughter's illness and we found the Lyme Disease
Network - LymeNet. LymeNet is a terrific source of information and
comfort especially to the newly afflicted or misdiagnosed patients who
have unanswered questions. Through LymeNet we found a caring doctor who
treated our daughter for over 4 years. She is doing well but we still
need to fight this horrible disease.
Lori's story is at: http://www.angelfire.com/nj/lorib/

The non-profit Lyme Disease Network, http://www.lymenet.org operates
entirely on individual donations and is responsible for the LymeNet
series of services available on the Internet since 1994. It’s absolutely
necessary that we support LymeNet to continue educating the public about
the prevention and treatment of Lyme and other tick borne diseases.

Thanks to the LymeNet Flash Discussion Board, http://flash.lymenet.org
we've found friends who truly understand that no one is immune to these
diseases, are caring and willing to help other victims understand these
diseases.

We realize LymeNet can not survive without our help and we are asking
you to please join us in making a donation to LymeNet at this time.
Please ask your friends and relatives to join in our fight against these
horrible diseases. We hope, with all our hearts, that you can and will
donate. We MUST keep LymeNet alive and running. Let's hope that this
year will see the beginning of the end of Lyme and other tick borne
diseases!!!
You can read more about LymeNet here: http://www.lymenet.org/about.shtml
The LymeNet story is here:

Thank you for your generosity and continued support of LymeNet.
Donations can be made via PayPal by clicking on the “MAKE A DONATION”
button, on the upper left of all LymeNet website pages. Checks made
payable to The Lyme Disease Network or LymeNet, can be mailed to the
address below. As in past years, we will post our goals and progress on
the LymeNet Flash.

Thank you,
Lou & Angela Bachmann

to all reading this, a friendly reminder that MAY 31, is the DEADLINE
for this year's fund-raiser for expenses to keep lymenet going!!

$5,000 is the goal; around $550 has been received to date; LONG WAYS
FROM $ 5,000 ~!!!
*****************************************

to all newbies, please contribute what you can even $5 - $10 adds up
when MANY do this!!

that's extremely cheap for being educated about lyme disease, have
FACTUAL/SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE backing up things; being able to get LLMD
lyme literate md names to go to, and SUPPORT .... unlimited to cry on,
rant, and just talk about how sick you are to others WALKING IN YOUR SHOES!!

i know i'd never be the same if LYMENET WERE DROPPED due to people NOT
donating towards their $325 intenet monthly service bill, etc.

this is my HOME to visit with friends and help SO MANY who don't know
where to turn to!! [group hug] [kiss]

why is the goal $5000?

Read first post of this thread.

BTW: you don't need to quote the whole text when you reply. Doing so is
a waste of bits and bytes. And it's quite annoying to have to scroll
down a long quoted article to find a comment of one or two sentences.

I can sort of understand this. There are a LOT of competing possible
uses for the discretionary income of a LymeNUT.

For instance:

1. Phyllis and her slactivist friends are having a slactivist seminar.
How to be an astroturf slactivist. But it's in San Francisco, I think.
So, if you want to go and hear the Pat speak about her almost-
victories and get advice on how to ream out innocent congressional
staffers, or just make a fool of yourself and Lyme patients in
general...(hey...and let's face it...who doesn't want to hear that)?

(Well...one really, really slack slactivist said that she didn't want
to drag behind out there and have to get up at 7 AM Pac time...because
that was like, 3 AM out east. LOL. Does anybody know what time it is?
It's later than you think).

But that means airline tickets (for those who can't get reimbursement
from the LDA)...and hotel rooms...

2. Saving up for personal "Biotronic (Biophotonic, something like
that) 880". Gotta have the latest, coolest toy.

3. That Canadian kid's dad spent something like $14,000 on a private
jet to fly her to the waiting bank account of an "LLMD" in California.
He's going to need generous contributions. Lots.

4. LLMD expenses in general. And who knows when the next one of "our
doctors" will be "persecuted"? Best save the pennies and dimes now for
a rainy day.

5. And...don't forget all the previous contributions to the Brain
Fallon Center and assorted causes.

This is why it is so important not to ask "disruptive" questions at
LymeNUT. Asking disruptive questions tends to upset the emotional
equilibrium of someone who is trying to write a check.
