Given that Ed Conrad and Lin Liangtai were put on the list, I think
it's rather obvious that it was Ed Conrad who took an existing list of
the world's 50 greatest scientists and amended it.

Well, the subject line alone tells you that the criteria are going to be
profoundly subjective. I'm not so interested in whether a scientist is
"great" as whether he/she discovers something that somehow makes my life
easier.
